bermuda09012009Summer vacation is one of the most looked forward to times of the year for families and individuals alike.  It is a time to relax and to enjoy yourself and spend time doing things you wouldn’t normally have the time or ability to do on a regular basis.  One type of vacation people really enjoy going on is a cruise of some kind, whether it’s in Alaska, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean or somewhere else, it is always a favorite.  Bermuda is one of the hottest destinations for a cruise and is also one of the most varied too.  Here are some tips for finding the best Bermuda cruise for you.

Decide what you want out of vacation - Some people have completely different objectives for their vacation.  Many families are taking vacations more often and almost always together.  Cruises are popular with families and many cater to the needs and wants of parents with children coming along.  There are cruise lines that also explicitly prohibit children.  This type of cruise is generally more oriented to the young honeymoon couple, retirees, or even singles just looking for a relaxing vacation.  The family ships have a very wide variety of activities available for the whole family to do together and some even have areas and times where parents can drop their kids off for the entire day and spend time alone relaxing.  There are often theaters and other attractions that will appeal to the whole family and provide great opportunities to have fun.  There are often night clubs and sports bars for the dancers and avid fans to keep up with what’s happening even on vacation.  For the crowd that just wants to relax, there are also many ships that offer more laid back accommodations and activities to fit their needs.

Determine what other activities you want to do - Although cruise ships are often very luxurious, many people get tired of staying on the ship all the time.  One of the great things about a cruise to Bermuda is that it often stays in port for a longer time than some other ships so that you can spend more time on the island enjoying yourself and doing other activities that simply can’t be done on the boat.  Bermuda has more golf courses per square mile than any other place in the world and so it is naturally an iconic destination for the avid golfer.  What is nice is that there will almost always be enough time in port to do all the golfing you want.  Many cruise lines even offer special golfing packages to Bermuda that can include a professional golf coach and planned excursions and escorts to the courses.  Many vacationers go to Bermuda for the shopping experience.  It is upscale and gives a certain taste of British extravagance while on a small island.  Bermuda also offers many diving and snorkeling activities on the beautiful reefs and many, many more things to do on land.

Decide on a budget and shop around -
There are so many options when it comes to budgeting for your Bermuda cruise.  It is important to understand what your budget is and what you will get for the package you buy.  Many people do their research before booking a cruise online and there are many different web sites that offer great deals to the various cruise lines.  There are often promotions and special offers that you can take advantage of but you have to plan in advance.  Cruisers often plan their trips several months in advance (because there is definitely a busy cruise season and you can bet that many cruisers are going to be booking far in advance) and sometimes more than a year.  You also need to remember that activities that you do off the ship and some extras on the ship will cost you extra money because they are not included in the package.  The price for a cruise is almost always per person as well and isn’t for a whole family or even a couple.

Decide when you want to go - April to October is the cruise season for Bermuda cruises with the peak storm season between August and October.  The prime months offer the best weather and the ships are often more frequent than at other times.  The prime season is also more expensive that other times you if you want to spend less, you may want to book your cruise during the off-peak months.

Decide what you want out of your Bermuda vacation and plan accordingly.  It is important to start researching and booking as soon as possible so that you can have the best Bermuda cruise for you and your family.
