Vacation really only comes around a couple of times a year, but some of an individual’s or family’s best memories happen during vacation. That’s why it is essential to make travel as memorable as possible. Here are four tips for doing just that.
Lots of pictures
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so take lots of pictures. Nothing will capture memories better than a photo. Taking a lot of pictures will make sure that there are at least a few `good ones’ that everyone will think they look good in. Out of 100 pictures there may be only 10 really good ones, but those 10 will be really good. If there are concerns about a really nice expensive camera getting lost or broken, buy a cheaper camera or a disposable camera. What’s the point of having a camera if it is not going to be put to good use? Don’t worry about getting a perfect pose or perfect shot, candid photos often turn out the best. After the vacation, make sure the photos are actually printed off and displayed. With all of the digital advancements, people still have a hard time printing off the photos, framing them, and displaying them. So remember a memorable vacation by showing off the pictures!
Planning
Half the fun of any vacation is the anticipation before hand. Take time each day to research and plan. This will build the excitement and make visiting different attractions more meaningful. Find out about the history of the location, the attractions, or the culture. See what notorious, rich, beautiful, or interesting people lived there. Plan out what attractions are must see stops during the vacation. Research all there is to know about the destination by looking things up on the internet, borrowing books from the library, or talking to people who have been there. All of this planning will really make the vacation so much more memorable, because there will be so much more to remember.
Activities
Everyone knows that some of the best memories from a vacation come from spontaneous, even silly sources. But planning out some specific activities can also create good memories. Try learning something new. Try out a new sport like surfing, skiing, mountain biking, or whatever fits into the vacation destination. Plan on eating something different or attending a unique cultural event. Research something unique that the `locals’ do and try it out. This may mean feeling a little awkward or out of place, but what better time to feel like that than on vacation where everyone is a stranger? These types of activities will really make a vacation memorable especially when the activity is shared with friends and family who are trying them out for the first time as well.
Flexibility
The most important way to make a vacation memorable is to be flexible. If the schedule is too tight for any spontaneity, great moment will be missed! Being stressed out over timing, shopping, food, and all of the details will make it hard to really enjoy the vacation. Plan as much as possible, and then go with the flow. Getting lost is not the end of the world, it may mean stumbling onto something new or different than expected. Being flexible will mean that a vacation can’t be ruined no matter what happens. And that will help make a vacation more memorable.
So to have a really wonderful and memorable vacation, keep these four tips in mind. First, take lots of pictures and actually put them out on display after the vacation. Second, take time to plan and research; it will be a lot of fun and enhance the experience. Third, plan on trying something new or different. Finally, be flexible so that nothing will ruin a fabulous and most memorable vacation.
