Enjoying Southern California

There are so many things to do when you are in Southern California that it can be difficult to fit them all in, or to determine your vacation travel budget. However, there are some great ways to enjoy a little or all of what Southern California has to offer for a low price. The following are a few ideas:

GoCards: There are these handy little cards that you pay a per day price for that will get you into a number of venues. Whether you go to one or all of the venues offered, the price will be the same. There are GoCards for SanDiego as well as for LA, and each offer a couple of activities in the other city. So, no matter where you are in the Southern California region you will be able to enjoy the venues. The GoCards can be purchased for one day, two days, three days, five days, or seven days. They get you into all sorts of attractions, such as waterparks, theme parks, zoos, Balboa park, museums, sports parks, art institutes, bike rentals, etc. In other words, for a few hundred dollars or less, you can visit 50 different attractions. For example, a one day pass would be $65, or a seven day pass would be $180. This means you can see all the great things in San Diego, and enjoy many attractions for a pittance compared to what you can do.

Southern California City Pass:
This is a pass that gets you tickets to five of the most popular southern California attractions for one low price. The price varies on where you purchase it. You can expect to pay somewhere between $200-$275 for the pass, or in other words, about a 30% discount. The pass gets you into Disneyland, California Adventure, Universal Studios Hollywood, SeaWorld, and the San Diego Zoo or Wild Animal Park. It gives you 14 days to use it. So, for someone who wants to see a lot of Southern California, and not just all of one city, this is a great option with flexibility in use, and plenty of time to take advantage of all of the tickets.

Costco deals: If you are a member of Costco, it is a great way to get discounts on enjoying Southern California. For example, you can purchase a season pass to Disneyland Parks for a great discount. You can get the Southern California City Pass mentioned above at a discount, or you can get individual tickets to some of the more popular attractions for a discount. In many cases you can get close to 1/3 price reduction from the gate price.

Entertainment Book Coupons: When visiting Southern California, a great way to get discounts is to use the Entertainment Book. It is full of discount coupons that can get you buy one get one free tickets, or percentage off discounts for attractions, food, and all sorts of other things.

  1. Thanks so much for mentioning Southern California CityPASS. The information you have is a bit outdated, so I revised your paragraph to reflect the 2011 pricing and percentage savings. I hope you don’t mind.

Southern California CityPASS: Southern California CityPASS includes prepaid admission – at a 29 percent savings – to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park (3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper bonus ticket), Universal Studios Hollywood, SeaWorld San Diego, and the San Diego Zoo. The cost of the Southern California CityPASS is $276 for adults (it includes tickets valued at $391). The pass can be purchased online or at any of the participating attractions for the same price. It gives you 14 days to use it. So, for someone who wants to see a lot of Southern California, and not just all of one city, this is a great option with flexibility in use, and plenty of time to take advantage of all of the tickets.

Thanks again for the nice mention.
