When you are in a car for hours at a time, it is bound to be uncomfortable along the way. Here and there you will have times when you are just flat out miserable or just plain sick of sitting in a car. One way to consider traveling is by taking a bus. You will be able to get up on the bus and move around, which can be really nice! You also have access to a restroom on the bus, which is also beneficial! How about taking a train when you travel? You can see a lot of fun parts of the country, sleep in a nice bed and get up and move around. Trains also serve great meals and this can help to pass the time. Here are some tips that will help you to be a little more comfortable when you are traveling.

Plan for stops
As you are preparing your vacation, look at different places where you can stop. If you have kids, you should look for parks and other places where you can stop where they have a nice playground for the kids to play on. This way you can make sandwiches or a healthier lunch while the kids get some of that excess energy out of their system. Know how far your car can go with gas so you can plan stops at gas stations that offer affordable gas prices. Stopping every 2-3 hours is necessary if you have kids as you need to let them out of the car to go to the bathroom and to really run around and stretch their legs. You will also appreciate a stop where you can relax and get out of the car and move around as well.

Bring entertainment devices
Depending upon how far you are planning to travel you will need something that keeps you entertained. Consider getting a DVD player for the car so the kids can watch a movie. It’s also a good idea to consider bring along a book or a tablet computer for yourself so you can read and just relax. Entertainment devices are definitely a must-have for long vacations. If you are the driver, bring your iPod so you have plenty of music to listen to. There are some people that really like to bring books on tape, which is also a good idea for long distance travel. Make sure your kids know how long the vacation is going to be so they can bring along their Nintendo DS device and other gaming devices.

Bring a blanket!
When others are sitting on the side of the sun, the AC is going to be blaring. A blanket or a jacket will be nice as it will allow you to stay warm when others in the car are hot and want to have the air conditioning going. A pillow is another thing you should consider bringing along with you so that you can take a nap and rest while everyone else is awake or when they are all quiet and sleeping.

Wear comfortable clothing
When you are driving for hours, you don’t want to be in clothing that is tight and restrictive. You need to consider lightweight clothing that doesn’t form fit your body and is loose. This is much more comfortable to travel in.

Eat healthy
It is easy to stop at fast food restaurants when you are out and about so you need to focus on brining healthier food choices with you. Bring sandwiches, dried apples, and other foods that will fill you up but won’t make you feel bloated and gross.
